Not too long ago I went to visit my parents in New Jersey and found myself watching an old black and white movie with my Dad. Typically, I am not drawn to these types of films, but they happen to be his favorite. I am not sure whether I truly liked the movie or if the time I was spending with my father made it worth watching. The movie was silly but just serious enough to hold my attention.
"To Be Or Not to Be" is a comedy about an acting troupe in Nazi-occupied Warsaw who use their abilities to fool occupying troops, starring Carole Lombard. Carole, who played actress Maria Tura, pulled me in, not for her amazing acting chops (although she was good) ... but for her wardrobe. Carole appeared in one amazing gown after another, typically topped off with a magnificent fur coat, collar or headpiece. The gown at the center of my infatuation was a silk number, hemmed by sumptuous puffs of fur. She walked across the screen and gave life to the fur as it trailed behind her beautifully dragging the floor. My initial reaction was, ...what a horrible way to treat fur?!, but then I thought of Kanye (see "Theraflu").
